I’ve always felt most at home in the outdoors — among mountains, rivers, and open landscapes where time slows and everything becomes clearer. There’s a sense of freedom in these places that has shaped who I am and how I see the world.

Photography has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. What began as a natural interest has grown into a clear ambition: to establish myself as a recognised landscape photographer in New Zealand and beyond.

I’m drawn to the quiet, fleeting moments within nature — the subtle play of light and detail as much as the vast, dramatic scenes.

This work reflects a lifelong passion that has become a focused path, driven by a desire to build a body of work that captures both my connection to Aotearoa and my vision as a New Zealand landscape photographer.

  • My primary system is the medium-format Hasselblad X2D II 100C, a camera chosen specifically to bridge the gap between digital photography and museum-grade physical art. Featuring a massive 100-megapixel medium-format sensor and legendary XCD optics, it captures a staggering level of structural detail and a seamless tonal depth that smaller sensors simply cannot replicate. It also utilizes the Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution, rendering the deep, organic greens of the native New Zealand bush and the subtle gradients of our coastal light exactly as the human eye experiences them.

    For many years, and for specific projects requiring immense speed and versatility, my workhorse has been the high-resolution Canon EOS R5 system, paired with ultra-sharp, professional-grade Canon L-Series lenses. Many of the limited-edition pieces in my gallery were captured with this exceptional system.

    To create my large-scale panoramic vistas, I meticulously stitch multiple high-resolution exposures together. Whether captured on the Hasselblad or the Canon, this precise technique ensures that when my work is printed at a massive, premium gallery scale, every grain of sand, leaf, and mountain crest remains breathtakingly razor-sharp, drawing the viewer completely into the frame.

  • A lot of it comes down to patience, local knowledge, and timing. Many of my New Zealand landscapes require studying topographic maps, tracking weather fronts, and hiking out into remote spots in the dark to catch the first light. My background with LandSAR (Land Search and Rescue) has given me a deep respect for the backcountry and the navigational skills to get into these wild spaces safely.
