The Story Behind the Print
Sleeping in the back of my Jeep with the overnight temperature dropping to –12.5°C, I woke before dawn to a world hidden beneath a thick blanket of fog. Visibility was almost non-existent, but the forecast suggested the mist would clear by 9am. With time on my side, I wandered through the frozen landscape searching for the perfect vantage point, trusting that patience would eventually be rewarded.
Nine o'clock passed. Then ten. Then eleven.
After more than four hours standing in sub-zero temperatures, the fog finally began to dissolve. As shafts of sunlight reached across the Mackenzie Basin, drifting mist danced around the Church of the Good Shepherd while fresh snow blanketed the surrounding hills. For just a few fleeting moments, winter revealed a scene of remarkable tranquillity before the atmosphere changed once again.
Landscape photography continually reminds me that nature works to its own timetable. Sometimes, the greatest reward comes not from finding the perfect location, but from having the patience to wait until the landscape is ready to reveal its story.
