Captured in the Tasman region of New Zealand, this image of Wai-iti House was the result of carefully working the scene to find a strong foreground and background alignment. The composition uses two large tōtara trees in the foreground to naturally frame the historic homestead behind.
This was a focussed, stacked image, built to maintain sharp detail from the textured tree trunks through to the house on the hillside. The overcast light helped hold even tones across the scene, allowing the structure, trees, and surrounding grass to sit together without harsh contrast.
The house shows clear signs of age, with weathered timber and a rusted corrugated iron roof, sitting quietly within the landscape. The framing of the trees and the layered focus bring structure to a scene that is slowly being reclaimed by nature.
