Golden Gloom – Milford Sound Fine Art Print, New Zealand Landscape Photography

from $300.00

Limited Edition Fine Art Print — Edition of 25

Captured during a fleeting moment of changing light, Golden Gloom, Milford Sound, New Zealand shows Milford Sound in one of its more atmospheric states.

The foreground is made up of wet basalt stones and golden tussock, creating a textured, grounded entry into the scene. From there, the eye is led through to the Mitre Peak range, where the mountains sit quietly under shifting light and drifting shadow. The palette moves between warm ambers and deep, moody greys, giving the image a calm but powerful presence.

This image came from a long period of patience in the field — over five days of waiting for the right light and conditions to align. Along the way there were plenty of sandfly bites and a few very wet, cold days, but it all came together in this brief moment.

The photograph was awarded a Silver Distinction at the 2025 New Zealand Iris Professional Photography Awards, though for me it’s really about that short window when everything in Milford Sound lined up just right.
