The Story Behind the Print
Captured during an intense winter expedition through the frozen landscapes of the Mackenzie Basin, this image reveals a rare moment of quiet beauty in extreme conditions.
After a day searching for hoar frost beneath temperatures reaching -12°C, I found myself navigating remote mountain roads surrounded by deep snow, ice, and whiteout conditions. As I made my way back from the mountains, this solitary tree emerged from the frozen landscape, its branches perfectly preserved beneath a delicate layer of frost.
Standing knee-deep in snow, I carefully composed the scene, drawn to the tree’s graceful angle and the sense of movement it created against the stillness of winter. Alone in the mountains, this lone tree became a symbol of resilience and quiet endurance — shaped by the harsh environment yet beautifully transformed by it.
